FOCUS: POSTERS

Communication.

Communication is the process by which information is exchanged through a common sign of systems, symbols, or behavior. I communicate my clients culture and intentions through not just the words that they provide but through the images and colors that appropriately represent the client and their intentions. The bold block letters recall the American West, an appropriate comparison to the owner’s western horsemanship business while the 19th century picture is an easy point of correlation to many frustrated riders. Sophisticated fonts for the ice-cream social uphold the event as for an established society, while the bold and bright colors indicate an enjoyable community event.

The unobstructed view through the text to the green grass and blue sky invoke a feeling of summer and outdoors, while the white titles grab attention.

Representation.

Ethical representation can be a minefield to navigate in order to avoid appropriation, miscommunication, and misrepresentation. My work as a cultural anthropologist has made me sensitive to these ethical questions, overcoming these hurdles through participant collaboration, open conversation, and explicit consent.
